First Cash Financial Services is the leading international pawnshop operator in the United States, and also operates in some Latin American countries, with more than 2,800 retail pawn and consumer lending locations in 25 U.S. states. It has a large presence in Mexico, Guatemala, El Salvador, and Colombia.

The company focuses on the granting of micro-financing mainly through pawning, and in other jurisdictions, it also focuses on the purchase and sale of a wide variety of items such as jewelry, electronics, tools, household appliances, sporting goods, musical instruments, and other merchandise.

Recently, García & Bodán’s office in Guatemala provided legal advice to First Cash in the purchase and sale of assets of the company Empeños al Instante, Sociedad Anónima. The assistance consisted of the review and adaptation of the Asset Purchase Agreement in accordance with Guatemalan law, the negotiation of the terms of such agreement to protect the interests of First Cash, the assessment of the aspects related to the intellectual property derived from the acquired assets, as well as the tax and accounting implications associated with the transaction.

The legal team participating in the legal advice was formed by Partner Mauricio Orellana from El Salvador, Senior Associates Andrés Cofiño and Paul Rodríguez, and Associate Gabriela Arias from Guatemala.
