Project SolucionES
ProjectSolucionES is an initiative from the Alianza Global para el Desarrollo [Global Partnership for Development] formed by five non-profit foundations and organizations from El Salvador, for the primary and secondary prevention of crime and violence, at municipal and national level. The partnership is led by Fundación Empresarial para el Desarrollo Educativo (FEPADE) [Business Foundation for Educational Development], which manages and ensures the implementation of all the objectives, actions and activities of the Project. The other institutions are: Fundación Nacional para el Desarrollo (FUNDE) [National Foundation for Development], Fundación Salvadoreña para la Salud y el Desarrollo Humano (FUSAL) [Salvadoran Foundation for Health and Human Development], Glasswing International and Fundación Salvadoreña para el Desarrollo Económico y Social (FUSADES) [Salvadoran Foundation for Economic and Social Development]. Altogether, a triple strategy will be implemented to prevent crime and violence, which will consist of:
- To strengthen the prevention of crime and violence at the municipal level.
- Increase social investment from the private sector to prevent crime and violence.
- Research, publications and dissemination to report on decisions regarding the prevention of crime and violence.
The project lasted 5 years (2012-2017) for a total amount of USD 42 million, of which USD 20 million came from USAID financing and the remaining USD 22 million in the form of financial leverage.
During the first two years of implementation, the project focused its efforts in the municipalities of Ciudad Arce (La Libertad) and San Martin (San Salvador).
Then, the technical team executed actions in the municipalities of Sonsonate, La Libertad and San Salvador, municipalities in which it worked closely with the Municipal Mayors and Municipal Committees for Violence Prevention to develop diagnostics and crime and violence prevention plans that made possible to improve the quality of life of citizens as well as contribute to a peaceful coexistence.
Julio Vargas, as member of the SolucionES committee in the period 2014-2015, along with a group of businessmen committed to helping the country, actively collaborated with ideas and planning actions to reduce violence in El Salvador.
Among the actions carried out by the project included the development of workshops in order to involve social partners in strengthening the prevention of crime and violence, by providing a series of training and recreational activities in various subjects that not only warn those belonging to the areas where the project acts to prevent violent actions, but also provide a development tool.
