Honduras obtains the second best monthly economic activity indicator in Central America

Honduras was the second Central American country with the fastest growing economy in the first quarter of 2022, only after Panama, according to the results of the monthly Economic Activity Index (IMAE, for its acronym in spanish) for the region. The IMAE results show Panama with 8.1%, followed by Honduras with 6.6%, then Costa Rica with 5.8%, Guatemala with 4.5% and Nicaragua with 2.6%, due to activities in the financial, manufacturing, construction, commercial, hotel and restaurant sectors.

The head of the Secretariat of Economic Development (SDE, for its acronym in spanish) explained that the results of the IMAE reflect the investment and said that only in the assembly sector will be collected between USD 500 and USD 600 million in the coming months.

According to the Central Bank of Honduras, the monthly economic activity index indicates the monthly trend of the real sector of the economy, which allows the authorities to make timely decisions to achieve their short-term goals. On the other hand the Gross Domestic Product (GDP), which measures the monetary value of final goods and services, i.e., those obtained by final consumers, produced by a country during a given period (e.g., a quarter or a year), identifies all income generated within the border boundary.
