The Congress of Guatemala approved a Law of Expropriation with effect of two years. The decree eighteen dash two thousand and eighteen (18-2018) approved by the Congress, establishes that it must be concluded the construction of more than fifteen kilometers in the main route of Chimaltenango, and as a consequence to be negotiated the rights of way with the owners of the lands through which will pass the road.

The Political Constitution of Guatemala establishes in the article forty (40) the following: “In specific cases, the private property could be expropriated by community utility reasons, social benefit or public interest duly proven. The expropriation must be subjected to the procedures identified by the law, and the affected good will be appraised by experts on the basis of its current value. The compensation must be prior and in effective legal tender, unless that the interested agrees another way of compensation (…)”. In compliance of the aforementioned, the State of Guatemala approved through decree the expropriation of lands for the construction of the main route of Chimaltenango.

The project will be executed by the Ministry of Communications (CIV), which will be connecting from the kilometer forty eight (48) to the kilometer sixty one (61) with the purpose of liberating one of the major traffics that creates in the country between the Municipalities of El Tejar and Chimaltenango, having as a purpose to constitute a fast lane to transit said route without passing by the urban zones of said Municipalities.

With this kind of projects, the State of Guatemala seeks both local and foreign investment to work in said road section with the aim of liberating commercial traffic of an important sector of the country, since that section will not only benefit traders, but also tourism, since it is one of the main routes to some of the most important tourist spots of the country.
