Dominican Republic and Costa Rica sign cooperation agreement on digital transformation and cybersecurity
The Dominican Republic and Costa Rica have signed a cooperation agreement focused on digital transformation and cybersecurity, specifically aimed at the mutual recognition of certified digital signatures. The initiative seeks to promote secure, interoperable digital technologies that strengthen electronic services, with a particular emphasis on information protection and operational efficiency.
The agreement enables both countries to recognize the legal validity of digital certificates issued by authorized trust service providers in each jurisdiction. This establishes a shared regulatory framework that facilitates the exchange of digital information, the signing of cross-border electronic documents, and the reduction of technological barriers in administrative, commercial, and legal processes.
In addition to enhancing legal security in digital environments, the agreement promotes interoperability between digital signature systems, contributes to lower operational costs, improves response times for electronic procedures, and fosters innovation in both public and private services. It is also seen as a strategic step toward regional digital integration, by setting conditions that could be replicated in similar agreements with other countries.
This marks the second international agreement signed by the Dominican Republic regarding digital signatures, further solidifying its leadership in adopting technological and legal standards in Central America and the Caribbean.
