Design, construction, equipment, and start-up for the improvement of the Sololá Hospital in Guatemala

The purpose of the tender is to design, build, equip and start-up the improvement and/or expansion of the Sololá Hospital under a turnkey contract, developed in four phases: 1) Pre-investment Phase 2) Construction Phase, 3) Equipment Phase and 4) Start-up Phase.

The project is aimed at restoring hospital capacity and health care coverage in the departments of Alta Verapaz, Jutiapa, and Suchitepéquez. The construction and equipping of the new facilities are expected to improve approximately 670 census beds. In addition, the capacity of the national hospitals in Chiquimula and Sololá will be improved and increased through the improvement of existing infrastructure and new construction, thereby increasing coverage to 1,040 census beds.

As a result of the project, the annual number of patients treated is expected to increase by 37%.  Upgrading the hospital network will improve the quality of life and access to health services for the surrounding communities in the departments of Suchitepéquez, Retalhuleu, Escuintla, Santa Rosa, Jutiapa, Jalapa, Alta Verapaz, Baja Verapaz, Quiché, Sololá, Totonicapán, Chiquimula y Zacapa.

The investment funds will be granted by the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI) within the framework of CABEI Loan 2230, “Hospital Infrastructure and Equipment Investment Program” of the Ministry of Public Health and Social Assistance (MSPAS, for its acronym in Spanish) and through the “Korea Development Co-Financing Facility for Central America” agreement signed between the Ministry of Economy and Finance of the Republic of Korea and CABEI.

The contractor will be selected in accordance with the procedures of the Central American Bank for Economic Integration established in the Policy for the Procurement of Goods, Works, Services and Consultancies with CABEI Resources and its Implementation Rules.
