Construction of Damping Works in the Metropolitan Area of El Salvador

The Government of El Salvador, through the MOPTVDU, executes the Program of Reduction of Vulnerability in Precarious Urban Settlements through the construction of damping works in the Metropolitan Area of El Salvador.

The Program will finance in its Component 1:

  • The preparation of a drainage master plan, which will guide current investments in the Metropolitan Area of ​​San Salvador (AMSS).
  • The construction of a set of lamination loopholes with the purpose of damping peak flows, as part of a solution to the flood problem in the (AMSS).
  • The repair of canalization vaults.

The macro drainage damping works that have been planned to be built in the Metropolitan Area of ​​San Salvador, consist of a system of Lamination Loopholes which design has been completed for stages I and II. It will mostly executed in areas of relief topographically depressed (or “natural lowlands”) and in sectors where excavation is feasible to increase storage volumes.

Stage I comprises the construction of a first Lamination Loophole that will be located in Colonia Luz, to the south of Boulevard Venezuela, between the 25th and 49th South Avenues. The construction of this loophole is the object of this contract.

Estimated cost of investment: USD 50 million
