Tender for reinforcement and rehabilitation of railway bridges in the Greater Metropolitan Area of Costa Rica
The Costa Rican Institute of Railroads (INCOFER) has opened the bidding process for the contracting of studies, design, and construction aimed at reinforcing and rehabilitating six railway bridges located in the Greater Metropolitan Area. This project is part of efforts to modernize and ensure the safety of the national railway network.
The goal of this tender is to restore the structural capacity and extend the useful life of the following structures:
- Bridge over Quebrada El Fierro, in San Rafael, La Unión, Cartago.
- Bridge over Calle 15 Miguel Hidalgo y Castilla, in Catedral, San José.
- West Exit Bridge of the Atlantic Yard, El Carmen, San José.
- Calderón Bridge, El Carmen, San José.
- Los Negritos Bridge, Barrio Dent, San Pedro.
- El Español Bridge, Sánchez, Curridabat.
Interested bidders must submit proposals for the six projects as a single contract.
Contractor’s activities
The selected contractor must carry out the following tasks:
- Initial technical inspection and specific data gathering for each bridge.
- Structural, geotechnical, and hydraulic evaluation (when necessary).
- Proposal for interventions to improve the safety and functionality of each structure.
- Structural repairs and interventions in runoff control works.
- Necessary complementary works to ensure the durability of the structures.
Requirements for bidders
Interested parties must meet the following requirements:
- Submit proof of registration and be up to date with their professional obligations before the College of Engineers and Architects of Costa Rica (CFIA) or its equivalent in their country of origin.
- Have a quality control laboratory accredited by the Costa Rican Accreditation Entity (ECA).
- Demonstrate specific experience in reinforcement and rehabilitation projects for railway infrastructure.
- Provide financial statements and contract history for the past five years.
Bid submission deadline
Bids must be submitted in physical form by no later than March 10, 2025.
