Grupo Fenix
García & Bodán has provided legal counsel to Grupo Fenix, a non-profit organization founded in 1996. It is focused on sustainable development by executing its operations through an inclusive business model, based on services related to Solar Energy, Agro-ecology, Natural Construction, Eco-tourism, Eco-Stoves Construction and Ecological Ovens.
The organization is located in the municipality of Totogalpa, department of Madriz (Nicaragua). Its territory of action is currently the community of Sábana Grande, which is made up of seven sectors (La Mayzuta, El Frayle, La Palmera, El Coyolito, Tinajilla, La Muta and part of Enoc). This community is within the Dry Corridor of Nicaragua, which represents a great challenge in the face of climate variability and change, because it has a direct effect on the livelihoods and resources that are the basis of community development; however, Grupo Fenix has promoted actions that contribute to the community’s progress in its resilience process.
Our pro bono work includes several stages to be developed in the short and medium term. In the first stage, the advice is related to the regulation of property ownership for the activities promoted by the Association. The second stage is related to advising on organizational aspects of the entity and the best practices for the management of its legal documentation.
Terencio García, Regional Managing Partner of García & Bodán and Dania Navarrete, Senior Associate, have been in charge of the advisory work, which is in its initial phase. This first stage is of vital importance for the Grupo Fenix because it will allow each associated entity, to have the ownership of the properties in which there is already infrastructure that allows the beneficiaries (community) to offer their services and generate income for the benefit of their families and therefore the development of the community.
