García & Bodán Welcomes Expert in Intellectual Property in Guatemala

García & Bodán is pleased to announce the addition of Andrea Vanessa de León Acuté as Head of the Intellectual Property practice at our Guatemala office. Vanessa will assume this new role with the goal of further strengthening the firm’s leadership.

Our expert has extensive experience advising national and international companies on the coordination, registration, protection, and defense of their intangible assets. Her notable background includes managing trademark portfolios, coordinating foreign registrations, and overseeing patent applications for inventions, utility models, and industrial designs. Additionally, Vanessa has deep expertise in copyright protection and managing health registrations for food, cosmetic, pharmaceutical, and agricultural products.

Before joining García & Bodán, de León led the intellectual property department at a major company in the alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverage industry in Guatemala. In this role, she advised all group companies on matters related to trademark portfolio management, copyright, geographical indications, and licensing, among other issues.

Vanessa is a member of the Guatemalan Bar Association, the Intellectual Property Committee of the Guatemalan-American Chamber of Commerce, the Inter-American Association of Intellectual Property, and the Board of Directors of the Guatemalan Intellectual Property Chamber. She is also part of the Alumni Association of the master’s program in Industrial Intellectual Property and New Technologies at the Autonomous University of Madrid.

Her academic background includes a master’s degree in industrial Intellectual Property and New Technologies from the Autonomous University of Madrid, a Postgraduate Certificate in Intellectual Property from San Carlos University of Guatemala, various specialized courses from the World Intellectual Property Organization, and legal studies from Rafael Landívar University of Guatemala.
