Costa Rica joins Global Entry Program to facilitate entry into the United States

Costa Rica se une al programa Global Entry

Costa Rican citizens are now eligible to apply for the Global Entry program, a U.S. government initiative that streamlines the immigration process for approved travelers entering the country through selected airports.

With this addition, Costa Rica becomes the 21st country whose citizens can benefit from the program, which expedites only the immigration procedures, security screening at airport terminals remains unchanged.

Global Entry members have access to dedicated lanes at U.S. ports of entry. Using automated kiosks equipped with biometric verification technology, travelers validate their identity through facial recognition, complete their customs declaration electronically, and are then cleared by a U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officer.

Requirements for Costa Rican citizens

Interested applicants must complete an online application through the Trusted Traveler Programs (TTP) portal, pay a non-refundable US $120.00 fee, and schedule an in-person interview at a Global Entry Enrollment Center in the United States. The approval process may take between four to six months, and in some cases, up to a year. Once approved, membership is valid for five years.

During the interview, applicants must present a valid passport and a second form of identification, such as a national ID card or driver’s license. The program is primarily intended for travelers who take at least four international trips per year.

U.S. authorities cautioned that not all applicants will be approved. Individuals may be denied if they have criminal records, are under investigation, have violated immigration or customs laws, or are unable to demonstrate that they pose a low risk to national security.
