Cybersecurity in Costa Rica
There are issues that become more relevant over the years because of their usefulness, relevance and need for society, and the clearest banner in 2019 was cybersecurity. Said matter does not only concern far-reaching companies, but also involves each and every one of the people who in one way or another use technological means on a daily basis, since it is possible to indicate that we are all exposed to the attacks that the use of technology in our homes, jobs and daily lives brings with it.
As a result, Costa Rica has been a country that has paid increasing attention to cybersecurity measures, and thanks to this movement, professionals with expertise in the field have emerged, who have contributed not only to protection, but also to raising awareness of the precautions to be taken in view of the high scope of the technology. This is the case of Esteban Jiménez, who has become not only an expert in the field, but also an activist who has sought to position the country as a regional power in terms of the application of cybersecurity.
This work is strategically demonstrated by the work it carries out together with the Ministry of Science, Technology and Telecommunications (MICITT) by organizing major activities such as the “Workshop on Institutional Capacity Building in Security” to be held in conjunction with the Embassy of Israel. Likewise, this entity published last December the recent digital site “Pura Vida Digital”, which aims to facilitate access to digital government services for citizens and companies in a clear manner and with the appropriate protection measures.
These types of activities increasingly demonstrate the relevance that technological security is acquiring thanks to the efforts of professionals like Jiménez, as well as all the experts who are part of the relevant entities, whose efforts should be recognized and closely followed by all of us.
