Design and construction of the dam in the Río del Hombre watershed in Honduras

Tegucigalpa, the capital city of the Republic of Honduras, has grown in a disorganized manner and has developed horizontally in topographic elevations and property locations that are not in accordance with the capacity and coverage of the infrastructure to provide public services. This is due in part to lags in infrastructure development and in part to management practices that are far from optimistic in guaranteeing quality services to users.

Therefore, the entire population settled in the capital city faces a serious problem of drinking water supply in terms of continuity, coverage and accessibility depending on its location in relation to the service levels.

The Man River drinking water system project is located in the Municipality of Distrito Central (M.D.C.), within the Department of Francisco Morazán, northwest of the city of Tegucigalpa, and consists of a multipurpose project to provide drinking water to Distrito Central and control river flooding by acting as protection for existing downstream settlements. The project calls for the construction of a dam to create a regulating reservoir, a treatment plant, and a pipeline connecting the water intake site to the treatment plant and from there to the city’s distribution network. Due to the fact that the section of the river under study is at a lower elevation than the city, the installation of pumping stations is required.

The Mayor’s Office of the Central District of the Republic of Honduras is calling all companies to submit bids for the execution of the project entitled: Design and Construction of the Rio del Hombre River Basin Dam, which includes a Conduction Line and a Drinking Water Treatment Plant.

Deadline for receipt of bids: Wednesday, May 18, 2022, at 10:00 a.m.
