Feasibility study of the Interdepartmental Railroad Transportation Network of El Salvador project
In a globalized world where everything is interconnected, the creation of a route of economic growth to boost the generation of jobs and development of the nation is imperative. That is why the Government of El Salvador announced last year the Pacific Train Project, which would connect the capital of San Salvador with Acajutla and could include an extension from the Port of Acajutla to La Hachadura, on the border with Guatemala. This will be the beginning of a railway network that will later connect with Central America and Mexico, turning the country into an international logistics center that leads connectivity in the Central American region.
The Port Executive Commission (CEPA by its acronym in Spanish) and the Presidential Commission on Strategic Projects of the Presidency of the Republic of El Salvador are jointly launching the Competition for the Feasibility Study on the future Pacific Train, financed with non-reimbursable funds granted by the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI). Thus, the Ministry of Public Works, through the Road Conservation Fund, in compliance with the provision of Article 47 of the Law on Acquisitions and Contracting of the Public Administration, invites all interested parties to participate in the feasibility study of a basic engineering project and technical structuring for the interdepartmental rail transport network of El Salvador.
The services that the Consulting Firm will exercise consist of the development of the Feasibility Study and preparation of a Basic Engineering Project for the implementation of an interdepartmental rail transport network at the national level, rehabilitating the disused right of way of the old railway line where feasible and projecting the opening of new lines where required and the implementation of a network of rail corridors at the interdepartmental level for the transport of passengers and goods where the implementation of 342 km of railway line is planned.
The general objective of this study is precisely to carry out the basic engineering designs and technical structuring of the interdepartmental rail transport system at the national level in the corridors defined by the disused right-of-way of the old railway network, as well as two new corridors that connect the Border of La Hachadura in the department of Ahuachapán, and the International Airport in the department of La Paz.
