Tender for the modernization of Puerto Caldera in Costa Rica

The Costa Rican Institute of Pacific Ports (INCOP) has launched a public tender under the Public Works Concession with Public Service regime for the modernization of Puerto Caldera. This project aims to transform Puerto Caldera into a competitive regional logistics hub by significantly improving its infrastructure and services. 

Puerto Caldera is a port located on Costa Rica’s Pacific coast, in the province of Puntarenas. It is known as one of the country’s main commercial ports and plays a crucial role in maritime trade. Puerto Caldera handles both imports and exports, particularly agricultural products and manufactured goods. 

In addition, it is an important entry point for tourism, serving as a cruise port and the gateway for visitors to nearby beaches and other regional attractions. 

The main goal of the project is to optimize the port’s infrastructure, implement advanced technology, improve security standards, and enhance service quality. With a concession period of 30 years, the project aims to meet the growing demand at the port and make Puerto Caldera an attractive destination for new clients and international maritime trade. 

Contractor Activities

To participate in this tender, bidders must meet a set of technical, financial, and legal requirements: 

Along with their bids, bidders must provide a participation guarantee in favor of the administration. This guarantee ensures the seriousness of the proposal and covers any potential damages arising from the bidder’s failure to fulfill the agreement. For this tender, the participation guarantee is set at 1% of the estimated official budget for the project’s capital expenditures (CAPEX), which amounts to USD 587,000,000.
