Costa Rica: Strategic Destination for Nearshoring in Latin America

In recent years, Costa Rica has positioned itself as one of the most attractive nearshoring destinations in Latin America. Nearshoring is a strategy where companies relocate part of their production or business operations to countries closer to their main markets. This trend aims to optimize operational costs, improve efficiency, and reduce delivery times by taking advantage of the benefits these nearby markets offer.

A recent report by Jones Lang LaSalle (JLL), “Nearshoring – Unveiling Latin America’s Potential,” highlights that Costa Rica stands out due to its favorable business environment, political stability, and highly skilled workforce. These factors have made the country a strategic hub for global companies looking to expand their operations in Latin America, particularly in sectors such as technology and life sciences. According to the report, Costa Rica has solidified its position as a key center for attracting foreign investment due to its stability, commitment to transparency, and high ratings in key indicators such as country risk and ease of doing business.

One of the fundamental pillars of this success is the high qualification of its workforce. Over 60% of workers in Costa Rica hold a university degree, allowing companies access to highly specialized talent ready to tackle the challenges of the global market. This access to qualified personnel is a decisive factor for many organizations seeking to optimize their operations in high-tech and advanced services sectors.

Costa Rica has also implemented an attractive fiscal regime with incentives for foreign investors, in addition to its competitive human capital offering. These policies have been crucial in attracting companies seeking a safe and competitive environment to establish their operations in the region.

Finally, Costa Rica’s commitment to sustainability and environmental conservation enhances its appeal. The country has aligned its policies with the social and environmental responsibility goals that many companies aim to meet, offering an environment that promotes sustainable business practices.

Thanks to these characteristics, Costa Rica continues to consolidate itself as a strategic destination for nearshoring in Latin America, providing a reliable and competitive environment for the expansion of international companies’ business and production operations.
