The Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI) and the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport (SIT) of Honduras have announced the launch of an international public bidding process for the rehabilitation and improvement of the La Barca – El Progreso – Tela road, as part of the Resilient Roads Program of Honduras.
The objective of this bidding is to strengthen land connectivity in the northern region of the country, enhancing both the productive capacity and the tourism appeal of Honduras. The project covers the departments of Cortés and Yoro, starting with an initial phase in the municipality of Santa Cruz de Yojoa, passing through Santa Rita, and ending in El Progreso, with an approximate length of 36.13 km, followed by a second phase that will conclude in Tela, Atlántida.
Construction is expected to begin early next year, once the contractor selection process is completed in accordance with the terms outlined in the bidding documents.
Activities the Contractor Must Perform:
- Develop the technical and engineering design of the project, including preliminary studies.
- Execute the expansion and improvement of the road based on the approved plans.
- Install necessary drainage systems, bridges, and pedestrian crossings for the project.
- Carry out road signage, both horizontal and vertical, to ensure safety along the route.
- Supervise and monitor the works to ensure proper execution and compliance with the required quality standards.
Requirements for the Contractor:
- Technical Experience: The bidder must demonstrate proven experience in large-scale road infrastructure projects, preferably in road expansion and improvement.
- Financial Capacity: Economic solvency is required to cover project costs during execution, supported by financial documentation.
- Certifications: The contractor must hold the necessary licenses and certifications for executing infrastructure works in Honduras.
- Specialized Personnel: Must have qualified technical staff, including civil engineers, supervisors, and specialists in road infrastructure.
- Environmental Compliance: Submit plans for mitigating environmental impact and safety measures in the workplace.
