{"id":43080,"date":"2025-09-16T00:00:22","date_gmt":"2025-09-16T06:00:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/garciabodan.com\/?p=43080"},"modified":"2025-09-29T17:54:15","modified_gmt":"2025-09-29T23:54:15","slug":"costa-rica-ice-launches-new-tender-add-100-megawatts-solar-plants","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/garciabodan.com\/en\/costa-rica-ice-launches-new-tender-add-100-megawatts-solar-plants\/","title":{"rendered":"Costa Rica: ICE launches new tender to add 100 megawatts of solar plants"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Costa Rican Electricity Institute (ICE) launched the process for receiving proposals for the sale of energy from <strong>new photovoltaic solar plants<\/strong> with a capacity equal to or less than 20 megawatts (MW).<\/p>\r\n<p>This process will remain open until <strong>October 8, 2025<\/strong>, and aims to further consolidate Costa Rica as a regional benchmark in clean energy. The projects must be located in the <strong>province of Puntarenas<\/strong> and, once operational, are expected to generate enough energy to supply <strong>65,000 Costa Rican households<\/strong>. In addition to increasing the national electricity supply, these plants will help diversify the renewable energy matrix and strengthen resilience to climate variability, one of the sector\u2019s main challenges.<\/p>\r\n<p>ICE will only select entirely new projects, with a total capacity not exceeding <strong>100 MW.<\/strong> This procurement adds to the <strong>130 MW<\/strong> of solar and <strong>80 MW<\/strong> of wind power awarded over the past year, as well as to the <strong>San Antonio, Abangares, and Las Delicias solar<\/strong> <strong>plants<\/strong> currently under construction under ICE\u2019s management.<\/p>\r\n<p>Beyond the energy contribution, this initiative also seeks to <strong>drive Costa Rica\u2019s economic<\/strong> and <strong>social development<\/strong>.
