García & Bodán, through TrustLaw, a global pro bono program from Thomson Reuters Foundation, has helped Soccer Without Borders (SWB), a program that uses soccer as a vehicle for positive change with a focus on creating pathways for growth, inclusion and personal success for girls and women.
The organization runs its program in 5 activities:
- Soccer: Provide equipment, training and transportation needed to help participants at all levels to play, score, dribble, win, lose, learn and celebrate under organized practices and games.
- Educational Help: Provide academic support, preparation for high school and college, as well as workshops about nutrition, well-being, healthy relationships and any other topic of interest for kids.
- Civil Commitment: Connect program participants with the local and global SWB community through projects where teamwork is encouraged, creating opportunities for key leadership outside the field.
- Team Building: With the team unit as the center of its program model, team strategies and the creation of computer programs are used to create an inclusive community that transcends differences.
- Cultural Exchange: They emphasize dialogue, understanding and friendship between cultures through intentional activities, including the use of group strategies, thematic events and opportunities for meaningful exchanges.
Our pro bono work has been through legal advice regarding the registration of its program in Nicaragua as an NGO, several inquiries about corporate, tax and immigration issues, as well as the preparation of exit documents for minors for participation in an international soccer tournament on behalf of the entity.
