The Government of the president Hernández signed a loan agreement with the Inter-American Bank of Development (BID) for the amount of 60 million dollars to strengthen the Program of Citizen Coexistence and Improvement of Vulnerable Quarters.
The agreement between the BID and the Government was signed as part of the visit of president Hernández to Washington, and will be the platform which objective is to develop a project that seeks to contribute to improve the citizen coexistence in Honduras.
To achieve this objective it will be work through the improvement of quality life in vulnerable quarters and the reduction of incidence of violent crimes.
The Ambassador of Honduras in the United States stated that this “is an important agreement that will allow to continue working in politics of prevention and social security for Honduras”.
The amount of the loan is of 60 million dollars (1,447 million lempiras), which was granted by the BID in concessional terms and on a long-term basis. The financing will be crucial to improve the habitat of vulnerable urban quarters, increasing the access to infrastructure of basic services and of prevention to reduce misdemeanor theft and sexual offences.
Also it has as objective to allocate part of the financing to improve the police effectiveness in criminal investigation, among other aspects that contribute to reduce crimes and violence. Said projects will be executed via works through the Government of Honduras.
