The U.S. company New Fortress Energy LLC announced an investment of USD 700 million for the construction of a natural gas-based power generation plant in Nicaragua.
The plant will be connected to the National Interconnected System through the Sandino Substation and will have an annual contribution of 2,233 GW to the country’s energy matrix.
As part of the launch of this new project, the U.S. company signed a power purchase agreement with the state-owned company Disnorte-Dissur. The plant will be located in Puerto Sandino, in the west of the country, and its construction is expected to be completed in September 2021.
The natural gas will be supplied by an offshore LNG receiving, storage and regasification terminal also being developed by New Fortress Energy LLC.
This is New Fortress Energy’s first project in Central America, which already has terminals in Puerto Rico, Jamaica and Mexico.
