García & Bodán Guatemala, through its Associate José Rosales, provided pro bono legal counsel to Li Ch’utam, a civic organization that seeks to promote sustainable development by improving the possibilities and conditions of the residents through innovative initiatives in the community; executing the process to establish the foundation so that it acquires legal status. Besides the pro pono work that José Rosales carried out, he was Managing Partner and participated in the entity’s projects.
Li Ch’utam Project initially began in the Nueva Mercedes village where the local private sector, aware of the increasing inequality, created the possibility of establishing a volunteer program in the area. The welcome was warm both at the school and community level and the hours of joint work gave meaning to the project started.
Li Ch’utam manages two projects in favor of the Nueva Mercedes village:
- Volunteer work Project: Seeks to improve the quality of education for the children of the village through assistance and support to teachers in their day to day and the implementation of computer, technology and software classes, besides the assistance to develop the ability and habit of reading.
- IT Center: Seeks to build and implement a new technologies center equipped with 12 computers and a small library. The center offers the community an opportunity to know and learn using new technologies.
