The Irrigation Program for the Dry Corridor and Remote Regions of National Production will promote different kinds of works, corresponding to the characteristics of the water sources, it will be able to have, among others: small wells with shallow depths, pump systems mainly through renewable energy, such as photovoltaic and wind power (small windmills). Where is not feasible the renewable energy, there will be implemented conventional systems, such as internal combustion and electric, and/or gravity-driven where is possible; reservoirs, galleries, dikes, rivers out-takes, cisterns, rainwater catchment, among others.
The program will cover approximately 4,000 hectares, being benefited around 12,000 small and medium producers. These producers must be characterized for having an infrastructure that allows to the program to complement, expand and improve the existents irrigation systems; also that the water source has a minimum flow of 20 gallons per minute. This requirement has the purpose of making the irrigation system more efficient and profitable.
This project is open to funding proposals for its execution.
Estimated cost of investment: USD 20 million.
