Improvement of Customs’ Infrastructure in Guatemala

The Superintendence of Tax Administration (SAT) will develop a project to improve the customs’ infrastructure in Guatemala. In order to determine which customs will be under the scope of this ambitious project, an assessment on their current infrastructure must be done.

This assessment will necessarily involve, as a first step, involvement of entities with experience in gathering data, which consists in the identification of the infrastructure’s current state in the customs posts, such as:

With said study it will be possible to determine the cost and the necessary time in the customs’ improvement. Once all the information is gathered for each regional management, the Board of the Superintendence of Tax Administration (SAT) will approve the allocation of resources to make the customs’ improvements.

Currently, the project for the improvement of customs, identified under the name of “Customs Model”, is in the process of conceptualization. This project is not limited to only one customs, but it is intended to improve all land customs in the country. For the effect, the first step is that each regional management launches a contest to contract the service, which will be acquired under the direct purchase modality.
